Tenkara is a form of fly fishing from Japan that is as elegant as fly fishing can be. It is simply a rod with a line attached to the tip.

Features

TENKARA ROD: Weighing just 3 ounces, this 12-foot fly fishing rod has a 6:4 rod action. It includes 9 sections made of durable IM8 graphite. Its 9 3/4 inch-long cork handle has a wooden plug for protecting the rod during storage. The end cap is aluminum and is laser etched with the Wild Water logo. The knurl on the end cap allows for easy disassembly of the entire rod for cleaning and replacing sections.
PLEASE NOTE: Tenkara fly rods do not come with a fly reel, guides or a reel seat.
PROTECTIVE ROD CASE: The Wild Water Fly Fishing Starter Package comes with a durable nylon carrying case and a soft, stretchy rod sock for travel and storage. The case features a 22-inch PVC rod tube and a carrying strap.
WATERPROOF FLY BOX WITH TWELVE FLIES: Our starter package includes a rugged plastic fly box that can hold up to 372 flies! Yes! We actually use our own rods. Wild Water doesn’t put components in our kits that you don’t need just to make it seem like you are getting a good deal. In most cases we redesigned components of the kit to make it work better than the competition.



The only other USA companies that do the same level of design and testing are going to charge you over $200 for a similar product. Every Wild Water package arrives at your door ready-to-fish. All you need to do is put the rod together, attach the reel, thread the line and tie on a fly.

Tenkara Rod and kit

First Tenkara rod so we purchased the kit, and appreciate the ease of having lessons available on line as well as all of the gear to try out a new form of fishing. We both found it to be fuñ and expect to need a lot more practice.

The kit and videos were very well prepared to introduce the tenkara setup. However, I haven't been able to figure out how to tie the tenkara line to the Lillian. The one video that showed the process I was unable to follow. The gentleman in the video mentioned that a diagram would be prepared to illustrate the process. If you could send me a detailed step by step diagram to tie the line to the Lillian, I would be most appreciative!

I’ve been very happy with this kit as my first foray into the world of tenkara. Although I don’t have a point of comparison, the rod is easy to cast with the supplied flies, durable enough for the variety of different species we catch here in Nebraska. The price of entry is well worth it and I’m very happy with the quality thus far.

Pretty Happy With It

Bought this Tenkara rod because I have the 7 piece Wild Water 5 weight fly rod and love it… So far I have only gotten out with the Tenkara rod once but I would say it’s just as good as the higher dollar rods manufactured by other companies. There’s definitely going to be a learning curve to overcome but this rod was a great investment in my fly fishing rod collection.
