Yes! We actually use our own rods. Wild Water doesn’t put components in our kits that you don’t need just to make it seem like you are getting a good deal. In most cases we redesigned components of the kit to make it work better than the competition.



The only other USA companies that do the same level of design and testing are going to charge you over $200 for a similar product. Every Wild Water package arrives at your door ready-to-fish. All you need to do is put the rod together, attach the reel, thread the line and tie on a fly.

I don't use drag on my fly reels often so I can't say how well it does in a fight, but the line is definitely a shooting line. With an okay double haul on the old switch rod I have it's an easy 50ft-60ft cast with no false casting. It can also be used for scandi/Skagit casting. Still trying to figure out which one works better for it since I'm new to two handed casting overall, but I think it was a good purchase. Worst case scenario, you got a large reel with pretty decent drag (tested by pulling out line to cast), and some backing already on it. If you don't like the line take it off and put something else on it. Good deal compared to bare reels these days.

Awesome reel

I had ordered a 11ft 5wt switch rod from wild water and put on a reel I had but the steelheads I caught this year burned my drag up ,so I purchased the reel that wild water recommended I should have done that when I ordered my rod. What a awesome reel it balanced my rod out and has stopped any steelheads that I have caught very smooth and very dependable thank you wild waters for great products
